My name is Shane Bradford, and I am the director of bands at North Middle School, General Beadle, Horace Mann, and Knollwood Heights Elementary Schools. Having taught in the Rapid City Area School District since 1999, I spent six fun-filled years in the elementary music field and now, twelve years teaching band at the middle and elementary school levels.
My teaching experiences began after graduating from Black Hills State University with a Bachelors Degree in Education, focused on Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade Music Education. In 1993, the beautiful town of Hulett took me in, and I spent three years learning from wonderful students and staff. The next three years I found myself in the great coastal town of Tillamook, Oregon - Go DUCKS!
Specializing in high brass, I completed my Masters of Music in Conducting with the American Band College of Sam Houston State University in 2012. In the past, I have studied Suzuki Violin and Viola - and now have the opportunity to learn a little cello with my youngest - with the possibility of this year introducing us to the BASS. I am pleased to perform with Dick Dittman's Big Band, as an occassional stand in for the Black Hills Symphony, and for the brass quintet - Quorum of V, and I love playing in my church.
I have learned more in the past years than any other time in my life. The least of which, is that my teaching peers offer an incredible mental and emotional support system. The biggest lesson: Spend the time you are given wisely. It is limited, precious, fragile, and fleeting. Know what you believe: believe in what you know!
Since I am in four buildings, the fastest way to communicate with me is through email. I will always answer you as soon as possible.
Have a GREAT year!
